Can Chlorophyll Cure My Acne?

Updated: Jun 23, 2022

If drinking your way to an acne cure seems 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲, you may be right!

At DermCafé, we’ve seen an increasing amount of queries about #chlorophyll.

So, we’re breaking it down for you here 👇

What is Chlorophyll?

🌱 Green pigment that plants use to make food in their energy process (photosynthesis⁣)

🌱 Contains antioxidants & vitamins A, C & E ⁣

🌱 Has anti-inflammatory⁣ properties

🌱 We consume it already in dark, leafy green vegetables, like spinach, parsley or broccoli

Does Chlorophyll work for Acne?

Liquid chlorophyll:

  • Some clinical studies examine it for anti-inflammation & medicinal uses⁣

  • No studies prove benefits for acne specifically

Topical chlorophyll:

  • Small uncontrolled studies suggest positive effects for acne, sebum production, pore size & anti-aging

  • More so when combined with red & blue light therapy

What’s the Verdict on Chlorophyll?

🌱 So far, liquid & topical chlorophyll lack the same level of science-backed evidence when compared to other proven anti-acne ingredients

🌱 There’s no harm in eating a balanced diet, which includes leafy green vegetables

🌱 It’s unlikely to help with cystic or hormonal acne
